To the problem of cold shortage for peach in Russian subtropics

Abstract

Peach is possible in subtropics if there are cultivars with reduced cold-demand in the winter. The paper gives a method of estimation of the cold period in relation to peach cultivars’ needs. The beginning and the end of counting the number of cold is determined: 2.5-3 months from the first coming ten days with the temperature not higher than +7,2^оC. It also specifi es the reasons for the low productivity of peach cultivars from the lack of cold in the winter. The best cultivars for Russian subtropics with the reduced cold-demand are defined.
