The magazine began to be published by the Russian society of gardening enthusiasts in Moscow in 1838 under the name “Zhurnal sadovodstva” ("The magazine of horticulture"). From 1859 to 1988 the magazine has repeatedly changed its name. From 1988 to the present time it is published under the name “Sadovodstvo i vinogradastvo” ("Horticulture and viticulture").
In 2014, due to the renaming of the founder, the magazine was re-registered in the Federal service for supervision of communications, information technology and mass communications (No. FS77-59887). In 1988, the magazine are received the International Standard Serial Number – ISSN 0235-2591.
In 2011 at the Congress Center (Moscow) of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation in the framework of the business forum "The Quality Press of Russia and its Development Prospects", with the support of the Federal Agency for Press and Mass Communications, the magazine "Sadovodstvo i vinogradarstvo" was awarded with the distinction "Golden press Fund-2011".
The magazine is currently included in the RSCI database (Russian Science Citation Index on Web Science Platform), CABI (Centre for Agricultural Bioscience International), International information system on agriculture and related industries AGRIS (Agricultural Research Information System), the Russian Scientific Citation Index (RSCI).
As of April 2018, according to the analysis of the "Russian Index of Scientific Citation" (RSCI), the two-year impact factor for the magazine "Sadovodstvo i vinogradarstvo" was 0.842, and the five-year impact factor was 0.573, with a self- citation rate of 14% (for detailed information see: www .elibrary.ru).
